Silverstein Properties – World Trade Center
It’s deeply satisfying to help build New York City into what it is today, and that has never been truer than following the events of 9/11. The Silverstein organization wanted to demonstrate American resilience by rebuilding as quickly as possible. They immediately hired JB&B, and JB&B brought in Gil-Bar that same month. We started by working with the entire design team on the equipment selections and machine room layouts for 7 World Trade Center.
Faced with the imminent phase-out of R-22, we worked with our manufacturers to modify existing designs to use a new refrigerant without slowing the building’s urgent timeline. Next, to adhere to a strict sound requirement, we worked with our partners to source all the component parts for a full sound mock-up that secured approval from all parties. Only 6 months after the fall, in May of 2002, the World Trade Center began to rise again. And it wasn’t just fast: 7 WTC became New York City’s first LEED Gold Certified Office Building.
But for Gil-Bar, this was only the beginning. The firm has participated in the design and/ or installation of 4 WTC, 3 WTC, 2 WTC, the Pearlman Performing Arts Center, and the World Trade Center Memorial.
